what to expect from your examination with dr. elly tehrani
Dr. Tehrani will discuss any concerns you may have regarding your oral health and review your dental and medical history with you. She will then perform a
comprehensive periodontal evaluation (CPE), recommended by the American Academy of Periodontology on an annual basis, to determine the current state of your oral health and whether further treatment is necessary. Dr. Tehrani will assess the following:
- Teeth
- Gum tissue
- Plaque and tartar accumulation
- Bite (how the teeth fit together)
- Bone health and bone structure
- Risk factors for periodontal infection or damage
Your new patient exam will serve as the basis of your treatment plan, if treatment is necessary. When you have been a patient for a year or more, Dr. Tehrani will utilize
your annual CPE to identify any new threats to your oral health so that she may provide early treatment before damage can occur.
Dr. Tehrani will also partner with your dentist and primary care physician when necessary, as periodontal disease has been known to affect other chronic inflammatory conditions, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, among other systemic health issues.
